Britons have been urged to keep alert when visiting towns in Spain, especially the city of Benidorm, after World Cup fever gripped the country resulting in increased crime and public disorder.Authorities have warned tourists to beware of street crime, which is rife across Spain, where thieves use distraction techniques to steal money and passports from vulnerable tourists.Thieves can even trick tourists by posing as police officers, demanding to see tourists' wallets for "identification purposes".The updated advice, listed on Spain's government travel website, says that the World Cup caused a spike in public order incidents across the streets of Benidorm. According to the website, officials advise fans who will be "watching England's semi final clash with Croatia" to "exercise caution around the vicinity of Rincón Loix”.The website said: “If you’re in the area, you should follow the instructions and advice of the local authorities; strict controls on drinking alcohol in the street are in force and anti-social behaviour may lead to prosecution.”Officials have also warned tourists to beware of attacks - including sexual assaults - cautioning visitors to keep their drinks safe when in bars or clubs.The website added: "Be alert to the possibility of ‘date rape’ drugs and ....
